Low Carbon Renovation and Extension

AC Architects was challenged to transform this modest 1930’s house for low-carbon open-plan living, with direct connections to the garden.

Super insulation of the floors, solid walls and roof, solar thermal panels, rainwater collection and plumbing, underfloor heating, a wood-burning stove, and a carefully designed natural ventilation strategy are all discreetly integrated to give environmental comfort.

The result is a book-lined study opening out into a living room, dining room and kitchen, all with garden views – a retirement haven for a distinguished academic.
