We welcome the announcement from the Government that as of (29 May 2025) the permitted development regarding Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) installation has been updated. The changes are as follows:
✅ The requirement to locate ASHPs 1m from the property boundary has been removed
✅ The maximum permitted volume of an ASHP has increased from 0.6m3 to 1.5m3. Allowing for larger systems for larger homes.
✅ Detached properties can now install two ASHPs under permitted development increasing the potential for the heating and cooling capacity of systems.
✅Installations must meet the updated MCS 020 standard regarding noise and noise assessment requirements.
These changes are part of the Governments Warm Homes Plan designed to support the nation's transition to low carbon heating.
